Youth Attitude Towards Volunteerism and Its Association with their Civic Engagement

Abstract

Volunteerism is the corner stone of civic engagement,
however, little has known about the attitude of youth towards
volunteerism and its impact on their civic engagement. This
study is conducted with the aim to ascertain the association
between youth attitude towards volunteerism and their level of
civic engagement at District Charsadda. A survey was
conducted using structured questionnaire to collect data from
students of Bacha Khan University Charsadda and its affiliated
colleges. Data was analyzed using chi square statistics to
measure the association between youth attitude towards
volunteerism and their civic engagement. A highly significant
association was found between various aspects of youth
attitude towards volunteerism and the level of civic
engagement. It is concluded that attitude towards volunteerism
have a strong impact on the youth civic engagement in society.
In order to develop positive attitude among youth in Pakistan,
awareness rising on the spirit of volunteerism and youth
involvement in volunteer activities are need to make then
positively engaged in social sphere.
